Meet the Teachers Behind the Club

We’re Shannon and Tammy—two veteran middle school ELA teachers with over 55 years of combined experience in classrooms just like yours. Between us, we’ve taught thousands of students, written countless lesson plans, and walked through every challenge and joy that comes with teaching middle school English.

Tammy has spent 30 years in education and now serves as an ELA coach for her district, helping teachers refine their craft and grow their confidence.

Shannon is entering year 27, currently teaching 7th grade ELA while also working as the instructional coach at her middle school.

We’re both National Board Certified, and we’ve both been named Teacher of the Year at our schools. Shannon was honored as District Teacher of the Year, and Tammy was a finalist for that same distinction.

We’re also the founders of ELA Core Plans, where we create and sell high-quality, standards-based resources for middle school ELA teachers—and the co-hosts of the podcast Two Middle School ELA Teachers, where we share real talk, classroom wisdom, and teaching tips every week.

The ELA Core Club was born out of everything we’ve learned—not from theory, but from decades of real-life, boots-on-the-ground teaching.
